Letters to Jenna
A blink of an eye
the first thing I want you to know
My friend, let me ask you a question.
Have you ever wondered how many years the universe had already existed before you were born? And when we pass away, how much longer will humanity or the universe continue to exist?
I guess the answer is quite easy to find, isn’t it? An eternity of time.
That’s right. Before you and I were born, and long after we are both gone, the universe has existed and will continue to exist for an eternity — for billions and billions of years, past and future.
If we take our average lifespan on this earth to be 100 years, in the grand scheme of things, it is nothing more than a blink of an eye to the universe. If you try dividing 100 by billions of years, it probably doesn’t even amount to a fraction of that blink.
And so, in this briefest of blinks — I wonder, why must we choose sadness? Why must we focus so much on suffering? Why don’t we choose joy? Why don’t we choose hope?
You deserve to have joy. It doesn’t need to be loud, it doesn’t need to be grand, and the whole world doesn’t need to know about it.
Therefore, let’s make up our minds: “In this life, I choose joy.”
Be joyful because we wake up tomorrow morning. Be joyful because we are still breathing. Be joyful because we are still here, and because of the many things we still have.
Of course, life isn’t always rosy. It still has its difficulties, its pressures, and its sadness. But after all, it is still just a blink of an eye.
You don’t need to run away from negative things; just make sure that within you, you always nurture joy and nurture hope. Lastly, I wish you always have little joys within yourself so that you can smile every time you wake up.
But for now, please set everything aside and have a wonderful sleep. If you have anything on your mind, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below. I can’t promise I can answer everyone, but I promise I will read them all.
Goodbye!
